Getting Started with Flipdish Handheld POS

This guide will help you set up and operate your Flipdish Handheld Point of Sale device.

Follow these quick steps to set up and start using your device:

Step 1: Power On

  • Locate the power button on the top of the device.

  • Press to switch on Flipdish Handheld POS. See a breakdown of the device buttons below

    1. Short press: wake up the screen, lock the screen.

    2. Long press: long press for 2-3 seconds in power off mode to switch on the device

    3. .Long press for 2-3 seconds in normal operation mode to select power off or reboot.

    4. Long press for 11 seconds when system is frozen for automatic reboot.

Step 2: Connect to Wi-Fi and enable NFC

  1. Tap the Settings icon on the home screen.

  2. Select Network & Internet.

  3. Choose "Internet" and select your Wi-Fi network then enter the password.

  4. Return to Settings and go to Connected devices > Connection preferences.

  5. Ensure both Bluetooth AND NFC is switched on. NFC must be enabled for contactless payments.


Step 3: Open the Flipdish app

  1. From the home screen, open the Flipdish app.

  2. When the app loads and displays your activation code, contact Flipdish Support or your onboarding agent to complete activation.

  3. Once your Handheld POS has been activated please ensure you log in and hold the Flipdish logo and Select Settings

  4. When in Settings select "Control" and ensure that NFC Payment is also enabled here.


Step 4: Activate your Handheld POS Printer

1. Log in to Single Portal (https://portal.flipdish.com/)

2. Select Organization → Properties → Select Property → Devices Tab → KDS, POS and Others

3. Among the stations choose POS → Receipt Printers → Add New Receipt Printer

4. The Settings should look like following:

5. Click Save and activate the same station in your Sunmi V3 Mix Device

6. Returning back to your Handheld POS log in to the Flipdish POS app and hold the Flipdish logo until you see the following option for settings:


7. The Same Printer will be available in your POS printer. Select the same printer in POS settings

8. It is recommended to use optional printing with your Handheld POS. To turn on optional printing please follow:

  • On your Flipdish Portal select Sales Channels on the Left hand side.

  • Choose "Point of Sale"

  • Select "Settings"

  • Select Print Settings

  • Change Print Receipt to "Optional"


Step 5: Set up your Card Reader to accept Payments

  1. Just like setting up our receipt printer above you will log into the Flipdish Portal (https://portal.flipdish.com/)

  2. Select Organization → Properties → Select Property → Devices Tab → KDS, POS and Others

  3. Select your Handheld POS station and choose Credit Card Terminals

  4. Select Stripe Reader as your Credit card Provider and ensure your Location Id has been entered in this section.
    Please Note:
    If you cannot see your Location ID please contact Flipdish Support or your onboarding agent to enter these details for you.

  5. It is recommended to restart your Handheld POS after connecting the credit card terminal.

Step 6: Take your first order

  1. Tap the dispatch type requested by your customer.

  2. Select items as requested by the customer.

  3. Review the order for accuracy.

  4. Tap Pay to proceed.


Step 7: Process a card payment

  1. Choose Card as the payment method.

    • The card option should display a contactless icon.

  2. Follow the on-screen prompts to process the payment.

  3. If the transaction fails:

    • Check your network connection.

    • Retry the payment.


Step 8: Print a receipt

  1. After payment, tap Print Receipt.

  2. Collect the printed receipt from the built-in printer.

  3. Hand the receipt to the customer.


Step 9: Power off the device

  1. Press and hold the power button until the shutdown menu appears.

  2. Tap Power Off to safely shut down the device.


Tips and tricks

  • Quick recharge: Charge the device overnight to ensure all-day performance.

  • Setup tipping: Enable tipping options in the Flipdish Portal to increase payment totals.

  • Loyalty insights: Ask customers for their phone number so they can earn loyalty rewards.

  • Network fallback: If Wi-Fi is unstable, consider using your phone’s mobile hotspot.

  • Extra paper: Keep extra thermal rolls on hand during busy periods.

  • The printer is relatively slow. You can make it faster by setting reversed property to false, if applied to template elements. This will help printer to consume less energy and print faster

  • The Handheld POS doesn’t support auto-cut so you will need to manually tear the paper out

  • You will need to add some extra padding (Empty Lines) at the end of each printing template to help ensure the full receipt has been printed out!


Safety and precautions

  • Handle the Flipdish Handheld Point of Sale device with dry hands.

  • Avoid exposing the device to water, heat, or direct sunlight.

  • Only use Flipdish-approved chargers and cables to charge the device safely.
