Create and Manage Modifiers

Updated over a month ago

What is a modifier?

In a nutshell, a modifier is a 'question' and the Options are the potential 'answers'. Let's look at some examples.

A modifier for a pizza might be a 'toppings' group. The question in this case would be 'What toppings would you like?'

The answers would be 'Pepperoni', 'Chicken', and/or 'Pineapple' (controversial!).

How to create a Modifier

  1. In your Flipdish portal, navigate to your 'Menu Editor' and select the menu you wish to add a modifier to.

  2. Select 'Modifiers' from the top bar or press "2" on your keyboard. Here you can configure your new modifiers.

  3. From the modifiers screen you can now select either of the below "+New Modifier" buttons to begin creating your new modifier.

  4. Give the modifier a name and select "Add" to add the new modifier to your list of already created modifiers.

Please note the newest created modifier will always appear at the bottom of the list.

Congratulations - you've created your first modifier.

Adding Options to a Modifier

Adding Options to a Modifier is quick and easy

  1. Select the modifier to edit by clicking on the ">" to the left of the modifier.

  2. Select '+ New option' to begin adding the name and price of the new option

  3. After entering the name of the option and the price you can click "Add" to include this option under your modifier.

  4. Once you are happy all Options have been added to a modifier you can select the "X" to stop adding options to the modifier.

Modifier settings explained

There are a number of settings that can be configured on a modifier. You can enter the settings for a Modifier by selecting the 3 dots option next to a modifier and selecting "Edit" from the drop down menu.

Schedule (2)

In this section you can set the modifier to follow a schedule e.g this modifier only appears on a specific day like Fridays.

All modifiers are automatically set to default which means the modifier will automatically follow the schedule of their associated sales channel.

  2. Choose a "Custom" and select "+ New schedule" to begin creating a custom schedule for your modifier.

Creating Conditional Modifiers

In Flipdish menu building, a conditional modifier is a rule that adjusts which modifiers are available to a customer based on their previous selections. This helps streamline the ordering process and ensure customers only see relevant choices.

Example of a Conditional Modifier in Flipdish:

Scenario: A restaurant offers a "Build Your Own Burger" option.

Modifier Group: "Choose Your Patty" → Options: Beef, Chicken, Veggie

Conditional Modifier: If a customer selects Veggie, the system hides cheese options that are not vegetarian-friendly.

This feature helps create a smooth ordering experience by dynamically adjusting choices based on customer selections.

Adding A conditional Modifier to an Option is quick and easy

  1. Select the modifier to edit by clicking on the ">" to the left of the modifier to show the list of options.

  2. Click the 3 dots to the right of the option and select "+ conditional modifier" from the drop down menu.

  3. You can now select from your list of already created modifiers to make it a conditional modifier for that specific option.

  4. Select "Apply Changes" in the bottom right corner to save the conditional modifier.
