Updated over a month ago

Summary

This article will outline the steps to test the internet and network connection on a Kiosk.

Requirements

  • A Flipdish Kiosk

  • A Registered Flipdish Account

  • A wifi or ethernet internet connection

Network Requirements

  • Connection Quality

    • Minimum of 1MB upload / 1MB download speed to connect to the internet.

    • Between 30 - 150ms delay/latency.

  • Security Permission

    • Open Wifi/ethernet is the most reliable option

    • It is important there are no firewalls or security protocols blocking the connection of internet permission to the Kiosk device.

    • If there is security, make sure the kiosk device is approved on the router security settings.

    • If there is a static IP address, make sure that is entered in the Kiosk under advanced network settings correctly.

Account Access

'Owner' or 'Managed Owner' level access on your Flipdish Portal.

Instructions:

  1. Press the power button on the kiosk until the screen goes black and you see the power off / reboot options.

  2. Select the option Exit Kiosk in the top right corner.

  3. Enter the code '1234' when prompted. This should get you to the Home screen, which usually looks like the example below.

  4. Look for a folder called Tools.

  5. Open the 'POS Steward' App. You might have to SWIPE RIGHT on the Kiosk home screen to find the app icon, if it is not in that folder.

  6. Inside the POS Steward app, you will see something like the image below.

  7. Press the area 'Network' circled above. Check the information on the screen. See the examples below. Scroll down by touching the screen and dragging your finger up.

  8. Press the button 'Network Test'

  9. Press the button 'Start Testing'. Wait until the test completes.

RESULTS - GOOD NETWORK

Below is a screenshot of the test when completed.

  1. The 'LAN' option should have a Green checkmark. This means the network is connected to the main router in the store location.

  2. The 'Internet' option should have a Green checkmark. This means it is connected to the internet.

  3. The 'Delay' also known as latency, should show a value in 'ms'. The lower the value the better. The good range is anything less than 100ms. The bad result is anything above 300ms.

You should test this a couple of times to be sure. To retest, press 'Retesting'.

RESULTS - BAD NETWORK

Below are some scenarios and solutions.

  1. LAN does not receive green tick - Your ethernet cable or Wifi is not connected to the device. Check your network setup on wifi router or ethernet cable.

  2. Internet does not receive a green tick - Your ethernet cable or Wifi is connected, but no internet is coming through to the Kiosk. You should check your security settings on the router or network and also check if the cable/wifi router is connected to the internet.

  3. The delay is above 300ms - This means the quality of your internet signal is poor, and you may not get reliable service for any internet-connected device. You might need to change your internet provider or review your Wifi or ethernet network setup.

After reading this article, you should now be able to test the internet and network connection on a kiosk.
