The recommended setup for a Flipdish Kiosk internet connection is to use an ethernet cable to connect it, however where this is not possible a Wi-Fi connection can be used. To ensure reliable functionality there must be a strong and consistent Wi-Fi signal. The strength of the signal reported by your device can be seen in your Flipdish Portal.
Requirements:
Must have at least one kiosk, that is using or has previously used a Wi-Fi connection rather than a wired network connection.
Measuring the signal strength
On a mobile device or PC, open a browser and log in to https://portal.flipdish.com.
Navigate to Sales Channels > Kiosks > Devices > Kiosks.
A list of your connected kiosks will be displayed. Click on the specific device to view more details about that kiosk.
Click the “Telemetry” button in the top right.
Interpreting the results
The Wi-Fi strength of the device over time is shown here. The date period selection can be used to see different date and time ranges.
Signal strength is measured in dBm and is typically between -30 and -90, with -30 being the best signal and -90 the worst.
67 to -30 would be a very good signal that should offer a strong connection.
80 to -68 would be a weak signal that may result in occasional or frequent connectivity issues.
81 to -90 would be a very weak and unreliable signal that is very unlikely to offer acceptable performance.
If no data is shown
The chart will not show any data for periods where the kiosk was turned off, or when a wired connection was used instead.
It is also possible that the device will not record telemetry data if the signal is very weak.
Improving the signal strength
Wi-Fi performance may be improved by:
Reducing the distance between the kiosk and your router
Ensuring a clear line of sight exists between the kiosk and the router, particularly avoiding very thick walls and metal objects such as kitchen equipment, especially microwaves
Adding a Wi-Fi repeater to your network if it is not possible to relocate the router
Configuring your router to use a different Wi-Fi channel that may have less interference
Using a stronger antenna on your router
